Hi all,
Please find below some amendments that must be made to the Post-Prelim Survival Kit (found in section labelled "Essays from Term 3 Revision Programme"). Refer to your lecture notes on the relevant sections if you are unsure.
1. AJC Preliminary Examination 2007 Essay Question 5(b) - The explanation for the point on negative impact labelled "structural unemployment" is inaccurate. Please change the analysis of that point so that it address comparative advantage, and how workers who've lost their jobs in industries without CA cannot gain employment in industries with CA due to a mismatch of skills.
2. Market Structure N2007 H2 Essay Question 2(b)
- The diagram for "natural monopoly" is not accurate. The diagram in the answer shows the case of a normal monopoly. In such a situation, MC pricing can be adopted because the average revenue is still higher than average cost, i.e. the firm will be able to make profits.
- The correct diagram for "natural monopoly" should be the one with downward sloping MC and AC, with MC below AC. (For information only, refer to your lecture notes if you are unsure.) In such a case, MC pricing cannot be adopted as the firms will incur losses since average costs will be higher than average revenue. As such, the compromise for a natural monopoly is to adopt AC pricing so that they make at least normal profits.
3. International Trade / ROG N2007 H2 Essay Question 5(a)
- The explanation in the last paragraph on Page 1 is inaccurate. Fourth line from the bottom should read "export revenue decreases and import expenditure increases".
- The explanation in the penultimate paragraph on Page 2 is inaccurate. Sixth line from the top should read "The domestic economy would increase demand for imports more than proportionately to the rise in income..."
4. International Trade / Foreign Exchange N1996 Part (a)
- The explanation in the second paragraph on Page 2 is inaccurate. Fifth line from the top should read "Likewise, the quantity demanded of Japanese goods will increase more than proportionately."
That's about all that I've managed to identify so far. Thanks to those students who came to clarify these at consultation sessions. If you notice anything "strange" in the survival kit, please let me know so that I can confirm and make amendments if necessary.

You are reminded of the need to sign up for the CAREER AND SCHOLARSHIP FAIR. Go to Schoolbuzz, click on the CAREER AND SCHOLARSHIP FAIR tab on the home page.
Please note that you HAVE to sign up for one concurrent talk or exhibition for each shift. All students HAVE to sign up for ONE exhibition slot. The slots are assigned on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS. You are allowed to change your choices before 18th July 2008, NO CHANGES WILL BE ENTERTAINED AFTER 18th July. ALPHA STUDENTS HAVE TO SIGN UP FOR THE TEA SESSION. PERIOD. Find out more on the organizations' official websites. All students will be participating in the fund-raising for President's Challenge and Heart Network as part of Connect Singapore.
Each student is given a pledge card to raise money from term 3 wk 4 to term 3 wk 6. On 8th August, we will be participating in the "Connect Singapore" activity. We will be making our way to specified positions outside of school. Then we will hold hands and recite the pledge. Our venue is from Presbyterian High cutting through AJC then to NYP. Let your class know that the mass remedial/ consultation planned for next week is cancelled. Nobody signed up as of week 2 of june holidays. This post is meant for people of class 25/07, for whom i have started to appreciate. Let me start by a story. [i'm sorry if this gets a little bit long-winded, it's just the emo in my nerves]
I went for my old clique chalet yesterday and to tell you honestly i wasn't enjoying it, instead i was dreading every minute. And from then on, i realise that it's no longer worth my time to dwell on my past and try to win the favour of old friends back just for the sake of doing it lar. It's more worth spending the time with people who you spend most time with. And that's why i thought of 25/07!! Since i spend most of my time with people from AJC, i might as well start embracing my environment. Truthfully, in the beginning i wasn't too keen with building strong friendship with any of you because i was too immersed in keeping my past alive. But the problem then comes when only 2 of your schoolmates are in the same school, while 70 others are in another school miles away. It doesn't help that these 70 start forgetting the other 3 in the other school. So it was my bad that i was very reluctant to be friendly with some, and i was kinda DAO to some extent lar. So i apologise for my very bad behaviour.
It was only from the chalet that i unfortunately attended yesterday that i realise i have to prioritise and know which group of people to treasure most. And i can certainly say now that it's people from 25/07! haha. So this post is just to tell you guys that although i am abit distant from some, but i realise your importance to my life and well, you help sculpt me into a better person in one way or another. Of course, i can't be close friends with everyone, but from today onwards i will treat everyone with an open heart=) no more reluctance.
It's kind of nice that i brought this up today on this blog. Because i was really bothered lar. And letting it out was good. So if you want to slam me for my bad behaviour, the tagboard is all yours for your profanities, i shall be undefensive and be nice. haha.
